Notes from the Road: Day 2 (or "I talk too much")

I talk too much. That much is evident after another day on the road. Anyone that has met me knows this already but you know it's bad when I actually notice it too. I started the day at 8:30 this morning, moving from the internal communications group, where I spent the majority of my day yesterday, to the corporate (external) communications group for the day. Today was their team meeting... Continue reading

Notes from the Road: Ich bin ein Berliner...

... Well, for a few days at least. I arrived in Berlin late last night and have just finished my first day here at the German offices of eBay. Today was a day of meeting and greeting with different folks; putting names to faces, etc. I plan on presenting the eBay Ink overview again tomorrow morning to folks - similar to the one I gave in the UK last week and at the Ragan Conference in San... UPDATED: A Follow Up On Payments

Timing, they say, is everything. I had no idea 3 months ago, when I booked my European trip, that we would be announcing these key changes to the eBay Marketplace this same week. On top of that, the two-day period when I’m celebrating the marriage of my little (not so little anymore I guess at 24) cousin, comes less than 24 hours after the news is announced. So I apologize for that now... Continue reading

UPDATED: 70% Reduction in Fixed Price Fee and much, much more...

With the ultimate goal to be “the most competitive marketplace online for sellers and the best place for buyers to find bargains,” eBay announced some pretty significant changes today in an effort to make the online marketplace more competitive and easier and safer to use. More on this over the next 24 hours but, in a nutshell... 70% Reduction in Fixed Price Fee Starting Sept. 16... Continue reading

S2: The new 3 Skypephone now available in UK

The new 3 Skypephone was introduced in the UK this week and Peter Parkes gives a full run down of the S2's particulars over on the Skype blog. I've never used a Skypephone but might see if I can get a demo while here in the UK (the S2 is currently only available in the UK). It sounds fairly straight forward as mobile phones go: texts, calls, web browsing and photo capabilities are all... Continue reading

Notes from the road: Richmond office - Day 1

Whenever I travel to England on business I always love the first day of arrival. When I come back for personal reasons, I usually have my family with me so I find myself annoyingly (to my wife; not to me) repeating myself; "oh, I haven't had this in years..." or "this is where Daddy went to school", etc. Thankfully my wife has a lot of patience - and my daughter is only two - so they both put... I have something in common with Carmelo Anthony?

And no, it's not that we're both athletes - far from it (he boasts a 6-pack; I boast a keg). And it's more than the fact that we're both blogging (he is a regular contributor to the New York Times Olympics blog this month). No, it's the fact that he's traveling for his career right now and the one thing he misses is his family and his 16-month-old son. In his most most recent blog post... Continue reading

Interpark in discussions to sell Shares in Gmarket to eBay

It's obviously early in the discussions but it appears that Interpark and Interpark's Chairman, Ki Hyung Lee, are discussing the possibility of selling their shares in Gmarket to eBay. No one is confirming anything beyond the fact that a preliminary filing has been made with the Korean Fair Trade Commission. eBay issued the following statement this morning: "eBay Inc., Interpark and... Another Case Dismissed: Belgians first to rule on L'Oreal's claims against eBay

The Belgian Tribunal de Commerce has dismissed all claims by L'Oreal (Lancome Parfums et Beaute) brought against eBay regarding, among other things, the sale of counterfeit L'Oreal cosmetics and perfume products online. L'Oreal initiated legal action in the courts of France, Belgium, Germany, Great Britain and Spain in 2007. The Belgian dismissal is the first and only ruling regarding the legal... Continue reading

Tiffany Appeals Court Decision

Today, Tiffany & Co. announced that it is appealing the July 14, 2008 decision by a U.S. District Court Judge for the Southern District of New York that ruled eBay acted reasonably and responsibly to identify and expose the sale of counterfeit goods on the site. Tiffany announced its intention to appeal the court's ruling despite the court's findings stating: "The burden of policing the... Continue reading
